Welcome to Casa di Fiorendo

Welcome to Casa di Fiorendo

The project of this B&B definitely stems from a love for Nimis, its history, its areas and its traditions.

Nimis is a small town in the Friulian foothills and is a point of reference in the wine and food sector considering the numerous  wine  cellars,  restaurants, agritourisms, frasche” and realities that can be found in almost all the villages and hamlets that it compose. Its historic churches, some located in panoramic positions, are often chosen by future brides and grooms from all over Friuli and beyond.

The village is surrounded by nature and offers a wide choice of green routes to be discovered during your walks or cycling trips. The names given to t h e rooms refer to typical areas of nature in the village.

i boins, i trescj e chei di NIMIS … (the good guys, the bad guys, and those in Nimis)

The name ‘Ca’ di Fiorendo’ was born from a nice idea of ours to make it fit a double meaning meant, in Italian, as ‘Casa di Fiorendo’ (Fiorendo’s house) and, in Friulian, as ‘qua da Fiorendo’ (Here by Fiorendo).

Fiorendo Comelli was the name of the last owner of the house, a real

character of our country, known by everyone.

The B&B’s name is intended to be a bridge connecting the past with the future, a philosophy we observed throughout the renovation project.

The history of our house

The ‘Ca’ di Fiorendo’ B&B is a completely renovated structure and our intention was to maintain the authenticity of the house, highlighting its strengths as much as possible, with a modern touch.

The structure was part of a historical estate in Nimis that included several buildings; our building was probably the part used for stables and the cellar. Over the years, architectural changes have been made and two extensions have been realised, easily visible when observing the long sides of the façades.

It is said that the building survived the bombings and fires of World War II and that weapons confiscated during that conflict were thrown into its original well. It was never known whether this was truth or legend, but the well was consequently demolished and only the circle of four stone elements was saved. During the renovation, it was decided to rebuild the well, in a different location, recovering the historic circle.

The structure, after the tremendous earthquake of 1976 that razed several municipalities in Friuli Venezia Giulia to the ground, suffered structural damage but survived. There was damage, but it was salvageable, and almost purely structural work was carried out in the following years.

How the idea for our structure was born

The idea of recovering the house came from Arold‘s intuition, which, thanks to the help of everyone involved and especially the masterful Stefano Gori, turned into a real project that became reality in just over a year and a half.

The planning and bureaucratic part was handled by the dream team consisting of the brilliant architect Corrado De Biasio (artistic director), super technician Alberto Chiappini (building and structural design), the fluid dynamicist Andrea Patat (thermo-technical designer and asseverator), the electrostatist Stefano Arnoldo (electrical designer and ‘super- coordinator’), the very precise Marco Balloch (chartered accountant), the geometrician Luigino Patat (stacking) and the lender Alessandro Cauti (bank manager).

The arrangement of the inner courtyard is the work of the phenomenal Toni and Franco Baiutti. The well is that touch of class that only the unmatched Attilio Munini could do. The roof of the house was completely redone by the Vidoni brothers. How could one fail to notice the beauty of the walls masterfully restored by the team of ‘stone masters’ Forgiarini Ivano. For the marvellous window frames, thanks go to footgolfer Ivan Muzzin and also to the formidable Michele Bianco who, given his talent for photography, also took care of the pictures you will find on this site. The pavements and the paving of the outside porch were done by Willian Pol Bodetto. Inside, it is impossible not to immediately notice the stone floors and period tiles laid by the unstoppable Stefano Bertossio. The staircase leading to the upper floor and the laying of the brushed larch planks is the work of the phenomenal Toni Sevino. In the breakfast room, the cross-vaulted ceiling by the flying griller Sergio Anzil is a true masterpiece. The artistic touch of the sign, logo and lamps is the brainchild of artist Fabio Comelli. The interior doors are truly unique and are the work of the woodworker Lorenzo Gentilini. The locksmith who took care of many of the basic details and the bike boxes is the iron-working Fabio Coassin. The wonderful rooms were designed and finished in terms of furnishings by Emiliano Stolfo with assembly by the slender Carlo Slobbe, as paintings by the pairing of Irene and Augusto Treppo, and as curtains by the creative Assunta.

The hydraulic systems are the merit of the great Antonio Pertoldi (the help was not only work- related) and his team; while for the electrical part, thanks are due to the electricians Federico Vidoni and Luca Vidoni and the whole team. Not least the physical, psychological (high level of endurance) and creative support of the

kaleidoscopic Valentina.

Also instrumental were the ingenious Emiliano Superina, the brawny Clirim Spaneshi, the singer- songwriter Marino Bertolla, the moro Luca Bressani, thefelez” Michele Cecconi, the cyberneticist Giandomenico D’orlando, security Igor Gollino, patent attorney Luca Pascolo, Luciano nicknamed Pedotto, the learning man Leonardo Meneghini, the insatiable Luca Venuti, the super Massimiano Attimis, the Lilos Pierino and Enrico Mini, and thanks go to all those who came by during the various stages of the work to visit us because ours was not just a simple construction site, but also a moment of conviviality that allowed us to meet truly unique people with whom a friendship was created or strengthened.
